Reflection 2/12/2019
I started a new project in class today. I found a Chinese fable about two chickens fighting for their favorite hen. In the morning, I drew a draft on the sketchbook, and in the afternoon, I decided to cut shapes of rooster, hen and other characters with paper. I think it's interesting and tomorrow is a new challenge.

1. I think this is an interesting project, using different lengths of bamboo to construct 3D buildings.Through this project we used our imagination to create a work.
2. I think the group cooperation is very successful, everyone is very creative, we can think of a lot of new ideas together, we can also learn from each other.
3. I agreed the idea with my group. When we first got the materials, we first discussed what we wanted to build, and everyone had his own division of labor.
4. If our group has more time, we can make the work more exquisite.
5. We added tape to the triangle to make it more visual.
6. I really enjoy working with group and structure, because there will be more interesting ideas after our discussion.
In the other hand, structure can help me to have more idea in this artwork.

How did you respond to the process of translating your conversation into a typographic communication?
What were your considerations in relation to choice of type, material and placement of your text?
How successful do you think your text communication was? Does it function as you intend?
- Because there is something wrong with my partner's mobile phone message, we communicate face to face. When I don't understand my partner's words,I can ask her directly.
- I choose the content of the text is also a contemporary problem, the choice is very difficult. So I used the phrase "don't be confused, make a choice." I chose the chair when I chose the seat, because when I walked into the classroom, some people would wonder where to sit. For materials,I used pink netting to make netting look confused, and used black, red ,yellow and white paper to cut out the letters and paste them on the chair.
- Because there is something wrong with my partner's mobile phone message, we communicate face to face. I think it is very successful and interesting. Face-to-face communication can express emotions and thoughts more directly and make people understand more easily.

Today's lesson is about fashion&textiles. In the morning, we experienced hand-eye-condiration , shapes ,outline details and collage drawings. Besides, I exchanged our works with the classmates in the class, and I learned a lot of painting skills and imagination from them. I am really interested in the hand-drawing content in today's class. It also improved my various painting skills. I hope I can study more about the fashion&textiles.

- The three words in the cards are：controlled，energetic and robust. I first wrapped the leg in a rope and hung it on the wall to represent controlled. Then hang a tomato and lemon on the leg to show the nature. Finally, a colorful flower was pasted on the bottom of the prosthetic leg to reflect the energetic.
- I think it doesn’t matter. Because in the process of production, we will have better ideas than the original idea, and the modified works may have better effects.
- I found that it was possible to express a state without using words, but with colors and patterns. In my work, the word "energetic" is reflected by a colorful flower.
- I think what my work can improve is that I hope to express key words more clearly and present more details.

- My design has no visual sense in the projection.

1. I think something new and interesting makes me feel surprised and I get excited when I see idol I like for a long time. Besides, I believed that what confused me recently is that I was not inspired when doing sketch research.
2. I like working on the body very much, where I can interact with the body, increase my imagination and make more interesting works.
3. I am very interested, because I can get more inspiration from unconventional materials, increase my hands-on ability and creativity, and at the same time, I can have unexpected harvest when making artwork.
4. Yes，I am a maker. My work is called unusual glasses. I made a pair of glasses with paper sticks and bamboo sticks tied together with string. And the special eye glasses are made by sticking different lengths of foam plastic to the frames. Because I hope that people wearing these special glasses can see the world from different angles, and I hope that these glasses can help people gain a better life. 1. I think working with my team members（ Jun Ong and Zihan) are very enjoyable. Because we can help each other and exchange ideas in creation, there will be more innovations in artwork.
2. I think it is to look for clothing materials that fit key words, and then design boldly according to my imagination.
3. I discorved fashion communication need to have bold ideas when creating.
4. I learned about the different design styles of my team members: when she designed patten patterned clothes, she chose a lot of mixed patterns, and used accessories (cross body bag and camouflage patterned silk scarf).

- When thinking about how to make the work,I considered that there was not enough time and materials, so I chose simple design.
- I think it will be harder, because when I made it, there was no material I imagined. So I spent a lot of time thinking about what works in my mind with a limited amount of material.
- I can use simple materials to make interesting art installations that can hold many fruits and can also be used in real life. I think this is the one that makes me get excited most.
- For the tomato device,I made a bracelet out of wire and string. At the top of the bracelet,I designed a place where a seat could put one or more tomatoes. For the design of the lemon device,I chose to make a necklace around the lemon with iron wire, which can be worn on the body as an ornament. For the watermelon device, my team and I designed a satchel to hold the watermelon.

What are some of the factors that you consider to be important when interpreting a piece of work?
How did it differ working in a group analysing and interpreting advertisement to working on your own?
- I think the visual effect (3D, fun, etc.)of my artwork will be taken into consideration more. At the same time,I think some social significance is needed (for example, when I make a smoke device,I hope to tell people that smoking is harmful to human body).
- I think what is different is working in a group. Team members will have many ideas compared with myself. More inspirations can be derived from the communication among group members. However, it is difficult for the team to have consistency when making artwork, and a lot of time will be spent on discussion.

1. What did you learn from today’s group discussions and how have they influenced your project?
2. How was your use of materials, scale and technique affected the decisions that you have made in your project?
1. today's group discussion,I have broadened my horizon ,including works of different majors ( architecture, media)and their themes. Many interesting ideas can be learned from their works. From discussion,I find that there are some problems in my works: the theme is not clear enough or innovative enough. I will continue to improve in the process of production.
2.In this project,I used collage,so I used many colors and types of paper. I first used a1 mountboard as the background,and then used black,white,blue,green,yellow and orange collage. The use of these materials creates the effect of fear of the subject.

Extension Project Day 3
I regret that I didn't attend class today because of my health. But for this project, I think I have improved a lot of skills and also increased my experience. I tried collage to make an artwork with visual sense. It also improved my knowledge of different materials. If I have the opportunity, I also hope to show and exchange my works with my classmates and teachers.

1. I think space is a word with a wide range and can be associated with many things. It is a challenge to think of words related to space in a specified time.
2. I think we need to add more color to space to make it more interesting and vivid.
3. I learned about UAL’s different majors and different colleges. This is conducive to my understanding of applying for ba major in the future.

What were the challenges of writing a brand identity or art direction shoot and how did you overcome them?
1. For my art direction shoot, I wrote the safe people idea: hope they find more happiness and enjoy life. Materials: bamboo, paper sticks and foam plastic. I use simple style for this artwork. I choose to be in an international metropolis.
2. More details of my idea.
3. I think the challenge is that the idea of the product may not be accepted by people, that the design of the product is not everyone like or understand. I think the question of the outcome just needs more explanation.

I didn't attend class today because of a fever, but I did understand today's illustration. I think it is very interesting to draw the pattern I want to express first, then print, and finally make a stop-motion animation. In the future there will be opportunities, I will also learn, I think it can improve my skills.

I think the success of my artwork today is the combination of painting and collage. At the same time, I also matched the colors appropriately. The work looks very interesting. One of my pieces was originally the cover of a book, where I put a portrait on it, and I put Chinatown on this guy's head to think of an interesting hat.
This is my favorite classmate's work：She took a complete black-and-white photograph, cut it in half, cut out the details and pasted it on the wall. I think this is a very special expression.

Extension Project Day 1
1. What has been the advantages and difficulties of working in a more self led manner?
2. Through your tests and visualisations, what challenges have arisen and how do you plan to overcome them?
1. I think the advantage of making artwork by oneself is that it will be more efficient, and you can develop them with a good idea by drawing it directly on sketchbook. The difficulty is that a person may not have as many ideas as a group of people, sometimes there will be thinking limitations. Second, it's hard for me to decide which one of my drafts is better. I always struggle.
2. Since my theme is about social anxiety disorder (the main character suffers from social anxiety disorder, but he hopes to become a normal person), I need to design the whole graphic with fear and unsocial atmosphere. It is challenging to choose colors and materials. But in the end, I chose to use different colors of cardboard to present the picture as a collage. The overall tone of the main character will be dark (black and grey, reflecting the desired normality). But the red "X" on his mouth means he has difficulty communicating with others. In this picture, other people are designed by me with bright colors and strong colors for contrast. In addition, I chose a public space-bathroom mirror. I will put them up. Because I think this is a public place, but also a place of embarrassment.
