“Thou shalt not steal; an empty feat, When it is so lucrative to cheat.”

The sentence my partner and I got today is “Thou shalt not steal; an empty feat, When it is so lucrative to cheat” by Arthur High Clough. After discussion with partner, my understanding of this sentence is as follows “ People can live better/benefit more by cheating rather than stealing." From the sentence we get two starting points for our artwork: cheat and steal. In my understanding, cheat stands for bright; Steal stands for reality. I am also planning to contrast these two in my artwork. In my artwork, I will use two cloth bags, fine thread and paper. First, I plan to write "cheat" and "steal" on the two bags and hang them on the wall. People need to pull things out of the bag with string. In the cheat bag, when people pull things out with strings, they find a string of notes that say cheat. And when people send things out of the bag, there is only a piece of paper. It says steal. I think these two words are clearly different in my artwork, and they will have interesting interaction communication with people.

   In my sketchbook, I tried to draw three kinds (boxes, boots and bags) to place objects when shooting video. From sketch, I think that boots and boxes will not have a lot of interaction communication and a good visual presentation in the final outcome in video.

According to two keywords (cheat and steal) and the main idea:" people can live better/ benefit more by cheating rather than stealing." Two keywords: cheat and steal. I found some comparative photos online, because in this project, I hope to convey two words (cheat and steal) to the audience. The difference between the two words is compared.
